Dive into this delightful treat

– Cake –

4 tbsp all purpose flour

3 tsp granulated white sugar

1/4 tsp baking powder

1/8 tsp cinnamon

1/16 tsp nutmeg

3 tbsp fat free milk

1/2 tbsp vegetable oil (substitute melted CBD Coconut Oil!)

– Cinnamon Swirl –

1 1/2 tbsp brown sugar

1/8 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tbsp unsalted butter (substitue CBD Coconut Oil!)

– Frosting –

1/2 tbsp unsalted butter (substitue CBD Coconut Oil!)

1 tbsp cream cheese

2 tbsp powdered sugar

  1. Combine all the cake ingredients into a microwave-safe mug. This is a smaller cake, so using an 8 oz mug should be fine. Whisk with a small whisk until batter is smooth and no lumps remain.
  2. In a separate small bowl, combine cinnamon swirl ingredients. Microwave briefly, about 20-30 seconds, or until butter melts. Stir and mix until it becomes a uniform, thick syrup. Pour into a small liquid container that has a narrow pouring spout.
  3. Working quickly, scoop out half of the cake batter and set aside. Pour a swirl into the remaining batter in the mug. Pour the rest of the batter back in, making sure to cover the cinnamon swirl completely. Pour another cinnamon swirl on top.
  4. Cook cake in microwave for about 1 minute until cake parts are completely cooked. The butter from the cinnamon swirl might separate slightly during cooking which will cause the cinnamon swirl to be a little gooey and wet but it’ll solidify and sink in as the cake cools.
  5. While cake is cooking, make the frosting. In a medium bowl, add ingredients. Warm in microwave slightly, about 10 seconds. Make sure to cover bowl with paper towel before heating. Using a really good whisk , whisk until uniform and frosting thickens.

CBD Topicals

You’ve most likely heard of CBD — as the focus of many exciting scientific studies, this cannabis compound is seemingly everywhere. If you are wondering how to incorporate CBD into your lifestyle, an easy way to do it is through topical products. If you find yourself wondering why and how you should give one of our creams, oils, or lotions a go, browse our frequently asked questions, there just may be the answer you are looking for. Happy Hemp has been nationally recognized by Forbes, as well as included in LA Weekly’s “best of” lists and we offer a range of CBD topicals for you to consider.

Why use a topical CBD?

People choose CBD topicals for many reasons. Some prefer the ease of use — just rub a dollop on the skin and you’re good to go. Others use it as a massage oil to enhance the effects of rubbing the muscles and still others use it to enhance muscle recovery or in an effort to limit post-workout pain. There is also pre-clinical evidence for the efficacy of CBD in reducing the amount of oil on the skin that contributes to acne.

How does topical CBD work?

Scientific studies focused on cannabis and its associated compounds, including CBD, have been heavily restricted for the better part of the last century so there isn’t a huge body of evidence around the use of CBD topicals

Here’s what we do know, although the exact way in which is functions is not yet fully understood — the body has an Endocannabinoid System (ECS) which manufactures and breaks down excess cannabinoids (this is thought to be the reason fatal overdoses are unheard of with cannabis.). This system also contains receptors for the endocannabinoids located throughout the major tissues of the body, including the skin. It’s possible that the topical application of cannabinoids like CBD triggers these receptors and that trigger is responsible for any observable benefit.

cbd pain freeze gel - cbd for arthritis - cbd for pain

Can a CBD topical help with arthritis pain?

Although research on the relationship between CBD topicals and arthritis are just beginning, the pre-clinical studies that have been done are interesting to say the least. According to this study, researchers found that transdermal (through the skin) application of CBD reduced the size of arthritic joints in rats. The same study indicated that the pain scale of the animals was reduced after a week of application and the authors of the study concluded: “use of topical CBD has potential as effective treatment of arthritic symptomatology”. Of course, a study done in animals is not the same as one done in humans but with CBD finally entering the national awareness, there are sure to be some exciting developments in the coming years.

Can topical CBD help with acne?

While this study is also pre-clinical it seems promising. Researchers found that CBD “normalizes ‘pro-acne agent’ lipid synthesis. What this means in lay terms is that CBD normalized the amount of oil produced by sebaceous glands, which may be beneficial because the oil may create a favorable environment for the acne bacteria to thrive. In the same study, it was also noted that CBD showed an anti-inflammatory effect in the sebaceous glands with researchers stating CBD showed “substantial anti-inflammatory effects, which would be very much desired in the clinical treatment of acne”.

Does applying CBD topicals help skin conditions like eczema?

A groundbreaking study was published in January 2020. In it, the authors wrote that their study ‘sets the basis for the use of topical CBD for the treatment of different skin diseases including atopic dermatitis and keratin disorders.’ Again, since this field of research is relatively new, there have yet to be peer-reviewed studies done with human participants so the results can be viewed with cautious optimism at best.

Keep in mind that the same study found that there was potential for CBD topical application to actually increase psoriasis plaques, despite anecdotal evidence to the contrary so if you have this condition, consider using CBD with caution. Why Happy Hemp CBD topicals?

We understand that you have a wide selection when it comes to choosing a CBD company, that’s why we set ourselves apart with our products. Our Premier Hemp Oil Pain Freeze cream was designed with athletes in mind. Glycerine based for a silky, not greasy feel and applied with a ball applicator for both glide and a targeted massage, it aims for maximum relief from sore muscles and joints. Our proprietary blend also contains menthol for an instant cooling effect while the extra strength CBD oil is absorbed.

We also have a CBD infused coconut oil, perfect for massages or for use as a skin hydrator — it’s even edible! Try it as a hair mask for its smoothing and hydrating effects as well.

Our Premiere Hemp CBD infused Lip Balm is a fan favorite.

We use an independent lab to test our products to ensure that the amount of CBD on the label is inside the bottle and we post the results to our website, feel free to check them out — we stand firmly behind the products we sell.

I’ve never used a CBD topical, what should I expect?

Depending on the product, you can expect almost instant cooling relief thanks to menthol while the CBD sits on your skin or, if you use a topical oil, you can expect some skin hydration while the CBD is absorbed. CBD is widely considered non-irritating and safe so if you have a dermatological reaction, it’s most likely to one of the other ingredients. If you have sensitive skin, definitely reconsider the application of CBD coconut oil on the face, coconut oil is hydrating but can be slightly comedogenic (pore-clogging), canceling out any possible benefit of the CBD.

Are CBD topicals legal to buy in the United States?

We use only high quality hemp, grown legally in the United States for our products. The certifications we receive from our lab tests also show less than 0.3 percent THC in each batch, in alignment with federal laws for hemp products. Unfortunately, we cannot currently ship outside of the US.

With recent surveys finding that over two-thirds of Americans have heard of CBD, it’s safe to say that it has entered the cultural awareness. If you haven’t heard of it, or if you have but you have questions about it, read on — our CBD primer might be just what you need. So let’s answer the question: What is CBD? School’s in session: CBD 101.

What is CBD exactly?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the many compounds found in cannabis sativa (also known as hemp) plants. It can also be found in cannabis indica (marijuana) but in generally lesser amounts. Since the indica species often contains high amounts of THC in addition to CBD, it is not often used to make CBD products.

CBD on its own has zero psychoactivity, meaning that it won’t make you high or interfere with your ability to function.

Consumers can find CBD infused into a variety of products including edible treats like gummy bears, oils, and even skin creams and lotion.

What is CBD oil?

CBD oil is extracted from hemp plants. You may see different terms when looking at CBD oil including “broad-spectrum” and “full-spectrum” CBD and although they are slightly different, they are often used interchangeably.

Full spectrum CBD means that all of the compounds found in the cannabis plant are in the oil, including terpenes (which give cannabis its flavor and scents) and other cannabinoids (the collective name for the compounds found in the different species of cannabis). Keep in mind that one of the other cannabinoids is THC but in order for it to be a federally legal product, the percentage must be below .3%, hardly enough to get you high.

Broad spectrum CBD is similar to full-spectrum since it also contains many cannabis compounds, but there’s an important distinction — it has been processed to remove all traces of THC.

The highest quality products use CBD derived from hemp grown in the USA, we’ve seen Asian grown hemp products and they just don’t seem to be up to a reasonable standard. The method of consumption varies with the user — some prefer CBD oil or CBD vape cartridges or tasty edibles like CBD infused beverages and gummy candies.

Does cannabidiol oil really work?

The question of the effectiveness of CBD oil is a tricky one. Since hemp, and therefore CBD, was classified as a Schedule I drug for basically all of the 20th century, research has been limited. The studies that have been done have generally shown positive outcomes and this initial promise has made researchers excited about investigating the various possibilities of the compound. There is preclinical evidence (meaning animal but not human studies have been done) in its role in psychiatric disorders ranging from schizophrenia to generalized anxiety disorder as well as for its role in reducing chemotherapy related nausea.

Millions of Americans use CBD on a regular basis and swear that it helps them but many of these stories are considered anecdotal, with no scientific backing.

What is CBD? How Cannabidiol Oil works with the Endocannabinoid System | Happy Hemp CBD

How does CBD work?

It is believed that the reason CBD has any effect on the human body is due to the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is generally believed to play a role in the regulation of hormones (including the production of hormones that play a role in sleeping) as well regulating appetite and even the transmission of pain signals. The system is not fully understood but in the simplest possible terms it is comprised of endocannabinoids made by the body, receptors located throughout the brain and every major tissue of the body (including the skin), and enzymes to break down the excess. Researchers believe that since the body has its own system for dealing with endocannabinoids, the ECS explains both the psychoactive effects of THC and the potential for a benefit of CBD.

Are there any benefits of Cannabidiol?

While there is little irrefutable evidence as to the benefit of consuming CBD products, the studies that have been done are intriguing to say the least.

There is some evidence that CBD may help regulate the sleep-wake cycle and be useful in treating anxiety. This large case series concluded that in most of the studies, participants reported a decrease in anxiety after the first dose.

This study  looked at the anti-anxiety properties of CBD in a highly specific setting — public speaking — and found that subjects had lower self-reported scores of stress as well as lower scores on objective measures like palm sweating and heart rate, indicating a possible benefit of CBD.

The treatment of chemotherapy related nausea is one area where researchers are confident there is evidence supporting the use of CBD. The evidence was used as a springboard to develop a synthetic form of CBD used in conduction with THC to treat appetite disorders including AIDS wasting syndrome.

Is CBD oil safe?

A 2017 review on the safety of CBD concluded that CBD is non-toxic and generally well tolerated . The authors were careful to note that further studies about chronic, long-term use, as well as studies designed to investigate how CBD may interact with critical systems, like hormones, are also needed. CBD has no known abuse potential.

Keep in mind that “generally well-tolerated” does not mean free of any side effects. There may be drug interactions, similar to the compounds in grapefruit and milk interfering with a specific drugs absorption. There is also anecdotal evidence for side effects including diarrhea.

The FDA has approved a synthetic form of CBD (Epidolex) but it is important to note that none of the commercially available CBD products have been evaluated by the FDA and are therefore not intended to be used to diagnose or treat any illness.

 Is CBD oil legal?

The passage of the 2018 Farm Bill removed hemp from the definition of marajuana in the Controlled Substances Act. Prior to this change, hemp was classified as marajuana and, therefore was listed as a Schedule I  drug. The same bill clarified the definition of hemp as having less than .3 percent THC. Since the removal of hemp from the CSA meant that the possibility of federal prosecution for ‘drug’ related offenses was no longer an option, many have interpreted this to mean that CBD is legal.

You step out of the house long enough to get a few groceries and by the time you get back, your new puppy has wrecked the entire living room. Don’t be so quick to punish the little guy. It’s quite possible that he has separation anxiety.

To him, you stepped out for groceries and were never coming back. Before you leave next time, give him CBD dog treats. They’re safe for your dog and they’ll quell his fear until you get back.

CBD treats are good for more than easing a scared puppy’s fear. They can reduce nausea, give them some relief from common pain symptoms, and they’re good for their health overall. Keep reading this guide to learn more.

Is CBD Safe For a Dog?

Before we get into how CBD treats benefit dogs, let’s talk about safety. Are CBD treats safe for your pup? The answer is yes for the most part.

You want to make sure you’re buying from a reputable provider or your dog may end up with a little THC in their system which isn’t so good for them. They also can’t have the same dosage of CBD as humans do.

It’s easier to play with dosage when you’re giving them oil rather than treats but it’s still possible. Perhaps start them with half a treat to see how they handle it and then work your way up from there.

Your dog may show signs of tremors, dry mouth, low blood pressure, and drowsiness but it’s rare. If your dog starts showing any of these behaviors consult your vet.

It Works as a Pain Killer

If you have a senior dog who is suffering from arthritis, CBD may be able to help its aching joints. There are a couple of ways it does this.

CBD has been thought to be able to increase a chemical in the brain called anandamide. Anandamide is what’s responsible for lessening the pain signals being sent to the brain.

CBD also has anti-inflammatory properties that can cut down the aching and swelling that comes with puppy arthritis.

It’s an Anticonvulsant

Your dog can have a seizure just as easily as you can. There are certain breeds that are more prone to them than others such as Belgian Tervurens, beagles, Labrador retrievers, Shetland sheepdogs, and golden retrievers.

CBD works as an anticonvulsant by regulating the neurons in the brain that are responsible for seizures. So if you have one of the breeds listed above you may want to invest in CBD treats.

Works as an Anti-Inflammatory

We talked a little above about CBD working as an anti-inflammatory. We’re going to get into a little more detail about it here. CBD activates the receptors that are found inside the dog’s immune cells.

This allows it to take control of a bunch of different immune responses. One of them is you guessed it, anti-inflammation. This helps with any disease that’s caused by chronic inflammation such as IBS.

Eases Anxiety and Stress

The most common type of anxiety that your dog may suffer from is separation anxiety but it’s not the only one. Some dogs get nervous if they’re placed in a car for travel. Some don’t like certain noises or are afraid of meeting new people.

Dogs who suffer from these phobias may tear up furniture, become aggressive, have tremors, bark constantly, and urinate in the house.

You can help your fur baby in stressful situations and prevent the listed behaviors by giving them CBD treats. CBD works to increase the level of serotonin in the brain. This assists with puppy depression as well.

Reduces Nausea

It’s not uncommon for your dog to suffer from an upset stomach. This can occur because they ate something they shouldn’t have during a walk or they could just have a sensitive tummy.

There are plenty of medications on the market that your vet can give them for nausea but these all have unpleasant side effects like drooling, diarrhea, drowsiness, and lack of appetite.

CBD will activate the receptors in your dog’s system that are responsible for controlling nausea and vomiting. The best part is it does this with little to no side effects.

Helps With Cancer Symptoms

Even though CBD treats won’t be able to cure cancer there are a few things that it can do. It can slow down the growth of the tumor and give them some pain relief. If your dog is suffering from cancer chances are you’re having them go through chemo treatments.

Your dog will have about the same reaction to the treatments that humans do like vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and fatigue. CBD treats can ease some of these symptoms and increase their quality of life.

Good for Their Overall Health

As you can see, CBD reacts to several different parts of the body. That’s why many pet owners don’t wait until their dog is sick to give them the treats.

They give them to them on a normal basis in order to promote good health. Kind of like the dog version of a one a day vitamin.

Giving Your Pet CBD Dog Treats

Are you thinking about giving your pet CBD dog treats? They’re the perfect thing to give them for separation anxiety and common aches and pains. They can even ease cancer symptoms.

They’re also good for their health in general so feel free to hand them a treat daily and keep the vet away.

Let’s tackle the question: “What are the benefits of CBD gummies?” With the federal legalization of hemp in the 2018 Farm bill, cannabis is no longer on the fringe, it’s in the news. A dazzling array of products containing CBD are coming to market — everything from CBD-infused gummy bears to dog treats. Along with the products however, there are questions — What are the differences between the compounds in cannabis? Is there any scientific evidence showing a potential benefit of CBD use? Is any one form of consumption better than another? Read on and find out!

What are the benefits of CBD gummies? | Happy Hemp CBD Gummies, Edibles, and more

What is CBD?

Simply put, cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis.

Cannabis is used as kind of a catch all term for any plant from the cannabis genus. Although there is a genetic difference between hemp (Cannabis Sativa) and what is colloquially known as marijuana (Cannabis Indica), all three terms are used interchangeably but there are big differences between them.

CBD won’t get you high and hemp-derived CBD is federally legal in all 50 states (with a few individual states opting to keep it inaccessible) whereas products containing more than .03 percent THC have varying degrees of legality. Found predominantly in cannabis indica, THC is the compound that IS responsible for getting you high. Together CBD and THC, along with over a hundred other compounds, are known as cannabinoids.

There is mounting evidence that cannabinoids are useful in the treatment of various health conditions from multiple sclerosis to cancer, even less serious conditions like acne. After decades of heavily restricted access to cannabis, scientists are starting studies and trials and the results have been promising.

Is there any scientific evidence for using CBD Gummies?

Benefits of CBD Gummies for pain

Anecdotal stories of using CBD gummies for pain are supported by studies like this one that concluded cannabinoids have a role in managing difficult to treat pain. The study looked at Sativex Ⓡ, along with other synthetic cannabinoids. Sativex Ⓡ is an FDA approved treatment for neuropathic pain in MS and for cancer pain but it is important to note that it uses THC and CBD in a 1:1 proportion. Another study explored how  cannabinoids can help treat neuropathic pain, concluding that cannabinoids may also help in reducing inflammatory pain.

A large case series found compelling evidence for using CBD in treating sleep disturbances. After one month of treatment with CBD, sixty-six percent of participants experienced a betterment in the quality of sleep with a reported fifty-six percent still reporting improvement after two months.

Benefits of CBD gummies for anxiety

The same case series found CBD may also help with anxiety. Approximately eighty percent of subjects experienced a reduction in overall anxiety levels after one month of treatment and after two months, seventy-eight percent still reported the treatment was effective.

While we’re talking about anxiety, there are other studies that document CBD’s potential in managing stress caused by public speaking. While relatively high doses of CBD were used (from 300-900mg), both self-reports of stress and scientific measures of stress (sweaty palms, heart rate),were decreased in subjects receiving CBD treatment.

Benefits of CBD gummies for nausea

A particularly well documented potential benefit of CBD is in the regulation and treatment of nausea. Throughout studies with both animals and humans, chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting responses are reduced with CBD treatment. Interestingly, the researchers themselves reported that patients reported a preference for natural cannabinoids over the synthetic ones.

Why use CBD gummies?

Although no studies specifically use CBD gummies as their method of delivery, many people prefer to eat their CBD. Here are our favorite reasons for giving CBD gummies a try.

  • They won’t get you high. You won’t have to contend with side effects like paranoia or confusion so you can fully relax. As delightful as our CBD gummy bears are, they won’t have you giggling from a head change.

  • They’re tasty, sometimes it really is just that simple.

  • Easy dosing. With clearly marked strengths, ranging from 250mg to 3,000mg per container, it’s easy to decide your dose. Each containing around 10-12mg, our sour gummy worms are a delicious and quick way to nibble your desired dose of CBD.

  • Edibles may last longer than inhalation. Since the compounds go through the digestion process they have a longer onset time but being metabolized by the liver is a slower process — meaning your gummy may also last hours longer than a pull on a vape pen.

  • Some are one hundred percent vegetarian, like our chewy rainbows, so you can indulge guilt free.

  • They’re discreet. No one will notice you popping a peach ring into your mouth the next time you’re feeling anxious in public so you can consume on the go with zero fear of any lingering stigma about vaping.

  • No coughing fits, there is zero chance of them irritating your lungs.

Are there side effects of using CBD gummies?

One common thread throughout dozens of studies is that CBD use is generally very well tolerated. The most commonly reported side effects were tiredness and changes in appetite or weight. Whether or not those are detrimental to you depends on why you are considering taking CBD in the first place. Researchers were careful to state that studies looking at chronic, long-term use are necessary to determine what, if any, side effects come with continual use.

LAWeekly noted “ Happy Hemp knows where it’s at for CBD users, relaying the best in taste, dosage, and variety.” We take the praise to heart as we strive to be an industry leader in CBD gummies, as well as other CBD products.
